Imagining With Magnets

When I was growing up, my absolutely favorite toy was my dollhouse. I didn’t really care about the dolls in it very much, but I had a total blast sewing curtains for the windows, making rugs and even building furniture for the house. How I ended up in a people profession I’ll never know. I probably should have been a woodworker.

The thing about toys back then was that they stimulated your creativity. It is much more difficult to find toys like that now. It seems as though toys today already have the “creativity” built in. Everything is finished, put in place. The branding of many kinds of dolls gives them ready-made personalities. Pretending goes out the door.

Now that I have my own kids, I have found it to be a challenge to find good toys for them to play with. I’m absolutely immune to buying junk that they will lose interest in quickly.

My younger son loves toys that you can use to build things with. The Probuilder line of toys is right up his alley. It is amazing how much more sophisticated these building sets are than the ones that I grew up with. I love that they challenge children to use their spatial abilities and help them learn how to follow directions to get a great result.

I also like the MagNext line of toys. They are also different from what I grew up with, because they have a wonderful sleek design that looks incredibly modern. But they’re the same in that you can purchase a set and build anything you want to. For example, if you purchase a
Medieval Building set, you’ll find that your child can do lots of different things with it.

It’s nice to see well-made toys that are modern but still allow for creativity and imagination!

Pink CD

No, I’m not talking about the singer here. I’m talking about the opportunity to present your product, pink or otherwise, in a really cool way for $`.27 per high-gloss five color dvd. DVDs can be a wonderful way to bring your portfolio to life, if you are an artist, or even do an innovative resume. For $1.27, aspiring filmmakers should be delighted! When
cd and dvd printing is that inexpensive, the possibilities are really endless.

I’ve seen this the most at weddings, where the bride and groom make their own CD mix and have it distributed to the guests as a memento. I think it would be fun as an alternative to the family Christmas card. What if you put together ten minutes of your best clips as a family, and then, at the end, wished everyone a merry Christmas? That would be totally cool, especially if you had a good design.

The Christmas cards I bought this year cost more than a dollar apiece, and this would just be soooo much cooler.

I’m also thinking resale. You could produce an interactive cookbook, for example, and sell it for quite a profit! I just love how companies like Bison Disc make this so affordable! Time to get your ideas up and running!

Pink Office Supplies

If I started a business, what color do you think I’d do my promo materials in? Pink? You’d be totally right. Yes, even office supply stores like Officeworks have pink stuff. While the
office furniture may largely remain conservative colors such as black, brown and gray, there are plenty of pink items to be found in office supply stores. For example, paper. Back to those promo materials. If you’re serious about branding, you want all of your promotional materials to back up you brand and imprint it on your customers brains forever. Right? Officeworks is a great place for small and medium businesses to get good deals on the supplies that they need. If you’re looking for quality office supplies, including pink printing paper, go to Officeworks!

I’m In Love With These Pink Laptops!

Unfortunately, I can’t put any photos of the Dell Studio 15 laptops that I’m so enamored with because they are all flash pictures. But they have definitely taken the laptop to an artsy extreme! There are several pink designs to choose from, from mod to sedate and classy. All of the designs are good. I am having an incredibly hard time choosing! You’ve got to check them out if you’ve been looking for a pink laptop. One hint–don’t buy them directly from Dell–you’ll probably save about $100 elsewhere. Comparison shop!

Pink Gift Boxes–Do Christmas Differently!

pink gift box

How on earth did red and green get the monopoly on Christmas? I know I would like nothing better than to see MY gifts wrapped in pink. I just love the wrapping done above, which has a cute bead from Artbeads. Try something different this year. If you wrap your gifts in pink, they will stand out from the rest. You can always add in some green accents, just to convince people you aren’t confused and thinking that it’s Valentine’s Day. This year, that is going to be my signature theme for gift giving. Well, except for the straight guys on my list…
