The Spy in Pink
I confess, being a spy is very appealing to me. Actually, the correct term these days for the job I have in mind is “private detective,” but that doesn’t sound nearly as sexy. The part about doing research and sneaking around in the night using my
night vision goggles is cool, but the part where you sit in the car for ten hours doesn’t sound too appealing at all. Spy gear in general is appealing. The little cameras–some even have night vision on them!–the night vision binoculars…it’s all perfect for sneaking up on that cheating husband that you’re tracking for his rich wife. One thing that I would love about being a spy is that I don’t look like a spy. I look like a middle-class professional who takes good care of herself. I like jewelry and make-up. I like to fix my hair nice. I just don’t fit the stereotype of a chain-smoking private detective at all. I don’t smoke at all. How do people smoke when they’re doing stakeouts anyway? Don’t the people being watched see the smoking oozing out from the car windows or something?
However, I will hold off on changing my career just yet. I live in the country, and the prospect of spying on people in the dark woods in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night is not my idea of a good time, even if I DO have night vision goggles! I’d prefer city high rise parking lots, thank you very much.
